On-Device vs Cloud Processing: The Key Privacy Choice

Where your data is processed determines who can see it. This is the fundamental difference between on-device and cloud processing.

On-Device Processing (What We Do)

  • Your data never leaves your device
  • Processing happens locally on your computer
  • No third party can access your tweets or archive
  • Faster for small datasets (no upload/download)
  • More private by design

Cloud Processing (What Others Do)

  • Your data is uploaded to their servers
  • They process it and delete it (theoretically)
  • They could see your data during processing
  • Requires trusting their security measures
  • Slower for large datasets (upload time)

The Privacy Trade-off

Cloud processing is convenient but creates a trust dependency. On-device processing requires more technical knowledge but eliminates the trust gap. If privacy is your priority, always choose on-device processing.
